History

The Home is named after Emilie Galloway whose daughter Ella died in 1930. Ella Galloway generously provided in her will that her house and gardens should be left in trust to provide a residential and holiday home for the elderly.

The original Home known as “Tweed” was in the New Forest but by 1952 the then Trustees were finding that the property was too expensive to maintain. In addition, the Home was felt to be too isolated in relation to shopping facilities and public transport.

qwe

Therefore, with the consent of the Charity Commission, the New Forest Home was sold and the present one in Eastbourne was purchased. The name Emilie Galloway was retained and some of the family furniture was moved to Eastbourne where it remains to this day.

Built in Edwardian Times the building is homely and has period character, but over the years it has been sympathetically modernised and maintained to a high standard.
